About Pocket Britain

Pocket Britain is a professionally created digital tour guide. You can view and listen to our articles right here on your computer in order to help you plan where to go and what to see and do when you get there. But you can also bring it with you on your mobile phone and use it as your own personal tour guide!
Like a real tour guide, Pocket Britain contains entertaining audio commentary. You decide where you want to go and when. You also decide in what order you want to see things. When you get to a place, Pocket Britain will become your tour guide, telling you entertaining stories about that particular place; such as what to look out for, its history, fascinating facts, what time it is open, entry charges and where it is located. You then choose where to go next, or use the guide to discover other points of interest around you. It's like having your own personal tour guide in your pocket!
Pocket Britain is split into regional or city guides. Each regional Pocket Britain guide is made up from a number of articles, covering many different places and subjects within that region. Each article is made up of text, photographs, audio commentary and is located on a map. You choose the articles you wish to view; or when your location can be automatically determined, articles relevant to your current location can be displayed (certain hardware only).

Bring Pocket Britain with you as your own personal tour guide. We have articles for city breaks, rural retreats or family holidays. Our entertaining tour guides will tell you about the many amazing places that the British Isles has to offer. You will find the legend of King Arthur, the story of Jack the Ripper, the tale of Guy Fawkes, as well as several ghost stories and even some comedy. Listen on your headphones, or your family and friends can join in and listen too, as the audio commentary has been optimised for playback on a mobile phone or MP3 player with a small speaker.
Pocket Britain is FREE to use online - either on your computer or on your mobile phone. This includes the audio commentary. In order to use the mobile version of Pocket Britain, all you need is internet access on your mobile phone. Open your mobile web browser and key in the web address m.pocketbritain.com. Pocket Britain is available on all major handsets including Nokia, LG, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Windows Mobile, Symbian 60, Apple iPhone (and iTouch) and Blackberry.
You may also download Pocket Britain Guides to your mobile device and bring them with you. This helps to get around the problem of patchy mobile signals in rural areas and expensive data roaming charges for international visitors. Our pocket guides will therefore be available in mobile app stores shortly, and you will also be able to download the audio commentary and listen on any MP3 player.
