One fabulous way to see the sites of York is by boat along the River Ouse. Standing back, with a clear view over the water, may even give you a better perspective of a landmark than being right up close!
York Boat offers trips up and down the Ouse everyday, come what may! And if the weather is bad you can shelter inside the boat’s comfortable lounges where refreshments are available. Hopefully, the weather will be good when you visit and so the best place to view York’s riverside wonders must surely be out on the open deck. The boats can take you out as far as the picturesque village of Acaster Malbis, 3 or 4 kilometres to the south of the City.

Self-drive cruisers
Access to the cruises are from the landings at King’s Staith, not far from the Jorvik Center; and at Lendal Bridge, a little further to the north. Among the key places that can be seen are the Roman Multangular Tower, the Abbey Ruins of St Mary’s, the prominent Clifford’s Tower, the Guildhall and, of course, the magnificent York Minister which can be seen from just about anywhere. If you’re feeling a little nosey, it can even be quite good fun to peep at some of the luxurious properties along the riverbank!

Trips also take place in the evenings, including when it’s dark. The boats are equipped with floodlights to pick out the best things to see. Even spooky ghost cruises are available, with guides in appropriate attire to disturb you - if you like that sort of thing!

Finally, if you like to be in control of the driving, you can hire your own smaller boat between April and October. These are available at King’s Staithe only.
